SFAI Reaches Full Settlement in 2009 Faculty Layoffs

It was announced today that the Board of Trustees of the San Francisco Art Institute, the Faculty Union, and seven former SFAI faculty members have reached a full and complete settlement of the issues arising out of faculty layoffs in 2009. The negotiations leading to the settlement respected the positions of both sides, and all parties agreed to the resulting terms, signing a Settlement Agreement and General Release on January 18, 2011.

Former faculty members, whose employment was terminated during a period of financial exigency at SFAI, had filed charges against SFAI with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, and National Labor Relations Board alleging age discrimination and termination in violation of the Faculty Union’s Collective Bargaining Agreement. The settlement agreement releases all parties from any liability or violation of law.
