scholarships and fellowships

When you support SFAI’s scholarship fund, you give the gift of opportunity. Help to bridge the gap in a talented student’s pursuit of an arts education by investing in the next generation of artists, writers, and designers. A majority of SFAI students receive financial aid, and scholarships are central to building a community that represents diverse backgrounds, ideas, and experiences.

You can establish an Endowed Scholarship in your name, which will be invested in its entirety, with awards made from interest earned. Annual Scholarships are given in their entirety the year that they are established. Gifts can be unrestricted or designated to a specific discipline, or criteria may be set for selecting scholarship recipients. You can also give any amount to our general scholarship fund.

Scholarship Recipient Thomas Chung (BFA Painting, 2011)

The Allan Stone Prize for Continuing Practices in Painting

“I wanted to thank you for the Stone Scholarship, receiving it was vitally important at a pivotal moment in my life. I won the award right before my last semester at SFAI. I had never won anything at the school before. Before I got the award, I wasn't sure what I was going to do with my life. I had serious doubts about how I was doing as a painter, and if I would continue pursuing art as a career. But when I got the Stone Scholarship, it was the motivation and validation that pushed me into believing in myself too, and right after receiving the award, I applied to graduate school for painting. Now, I will be attending the Yale School of Art for my MFA this fall. Thank you for helping me to realize that I can do this, because I honestly wouldn’t be pursuing this dream right now if it weren’t for your generosity.”
