Outside of All Things

Richard T. Walker documents elliptical encounters in the American landscape that record expansive spaces and the human presence within them. His works approach the American West from a perspective equally rooted in nineteenth-century Romanticism, contemporary performance, and low-key irony, to create a consciously mundane and self-doubting majesty.

Walker has upcoming solo exhibitions at The Contemporary Austin, Texas; ASU Art Museum, Tempe, Arizona; and di Rosa, Napa, California. Past exhibition venues include Kadist Art Foundation, San Francisco; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco; Museum of Modern Art, Rio De Janeiro; Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art, Rotterdam, The Netherlands; and K21, Düsseldorf. He received an MA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths College, University of London. Walker is currently based in San Francisco. He is the recipient of a fellowship from Kala Art Institute and an Artadia Award in 2009. Artist Residencies include Headlands Center for the Arts and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Walker is currently a senior lecturer at California College of the Arts and has been a visiting lecturer at University of California, San Diego; San Diego State University; Mills College; Stanford University; and Aarhus Kunstakademi, Denmark.
