Residencies are an important component of many working artists’ careers. Artist residencies vary a great deal in terms of what they offer their residents as well as what they expect in return. Some residencies might offer a one-week residency while others require a minimum stay of three months. Still others require the residents to either contribute to communal living or teach a class, while others place no expectations on the artists in residence. What most residencies share is that they offer an artist the time and space to work.
