YAP School Year: FAQs

We are so glad that you are interested in joining us. Please contact us at 415-749-4554 or at yap@sfai.edu to discuss your art background so we can ensure the program will be a good fit. If so, we are willing to make an age exception and can enroll you at that time. If the School Year program is not a good fit, please join us for the Summer Program.

We hope that you can join us every week of class, but understand that you might miss a class session or two. Students are responsible for contacting the instructor to notify him/her of any absences and to see what was covered. Instructors are not available to meet with students outside of scheduled class time to review missed content.

Materials are not included in the cost of courses. We make every effort to keep materials costs low for participants. Please plan to budget $50-$150 per course for materials. Materials lists for each class will be distributed to students and parents/guardians two weeks before the course start date. Please contact Public Education staff if you are concerned about the cost of materials.

Yes, you can leave some materials on campus in a locker (or two)! Please bring a combination lock with you to store your materials during the program. Some larger items that won’t fit in the lockers, like drawing pads and canvases, should be taken home each week.

Contact us by phone, email, or in person. We are:

  • Barbara Davidson, Director of Public Education
  • Emily Shallman, Public Education Coordinator

We are happy to answer any questions you may have!
