Steps to Study Abroad at ENSBA
Visa and Travel Information
The first step in your preparation to study abroad should be to ensure you understand the correct visa status you will use while studying in France and how it affects travel plans. The French student visa process is somewhat intensive and requires a significant amount of documentation. Please refer to the French Visa Instructions document available from the Global Programs Office for detailed instructions.
Housing
ENSBA does not have student housing options available to exchange students so students will need to find accommodations on their own. You may wish to consider the following options:
Flats with Studios
-
Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris (CIUP)
19 boulevard Jourdan, 75014 Paris, Tel.: 01 43 13 65 00.
Apartments are reserved for young artists from abroad for periods of 3 months to a year. -
Cité Internationale des Arts
18 rue de l'Hôtel de Ville, 75004 Paris, Tel.: 01 42 78 71 72.
Facility accommodates artists staying in Paris for a period of 2 months to a year (tenancy renewable only once).
Private Accommodations
A list of private housing, boarding houses, and student hostels is available at the CROUS Service du Logement (Housing Service) which can be found in the ENSBA Médiathèque. The Mediatheque is located in the Palais des Etudes (right-hand staircase, 2nd floor). Hours are Monday 2-6pm and Tuesday-Friday 10am-6pm. For additional information, please ask the SFAI Global Programs Office for the CROUS (Cellule Accueil International) document.
Students may also wish to utilize online rental websites like www.craigslist.org. It may also be possible to sublet housing from an ENSBA student on exchange during the same semester.
Meals
ENSBA students have access to student cafeterias. To purchase meal tickets you must show your student ID card. A list of student cafeterias is available at the Accueil Scolarite (Registrar’s Office).
Course Registration at ENSBA
The semesters for degree-seeking ENSBA students may differ from the semesters for exchange students. Students will typically have access to studios after the official end of classes, if they would like to use them. Exchange students will register for courses, visit the studios and workshops, and take the French placement exam during their initial orientation. In general, exchange students register for four course units (CUs).
French Language Classes
Non-native French speakers are required to take French classes. Testing will take place during orientation to determine proper placement.
Health Insurance
You will need to have health insurance that covers you during your semester abroad in Paris. If you enroll in SFAI’s health insurance plan, you will be automatically covered while abroad. If you are not enrolled in SFAI’s health insurance plan, you should confirm with your provider that you will be covered the entire time you are outside of the U.S. You are required to show proof of coverage upon your arrival in France.
