No prerequisites.

This course guides students through making multiples in ceramics. Whether making multiples of objects out of clay, or using themed pieces for sculptural and installation work, the course covers basic mold-making techniques with plaster. Through assignments, students will learn ceramics construction and glazing techniques, as well as how to design prototypes for mass production, and make plaster molds. We will examine these techniques through both a design and contemporary art lens.

Note: A great class for beginners or for experienced students to expand their skill set.

FACULTY PROFILE

Cathy Lu’s work is an exploration of her Asian American identity through gender, race, and culture. She creates interactive sculptures that require physical engagement, or depict bodies interacting with themselves and others in order to explore the fragmented self and our ability (or inability) to cohere these disparate fragments into one identity. Cathy received an MFA in sculpture and ceramics from SFAI, and currently lives and works in the Bay Area.
