We encourage you to contact your Admissions Counselor, listed below, who can answer your questions about SFAI, arrange campus visits, and explain how the application process works. Our Admissions Counselors also attend National Portfolio Days and Performing and Visual Arts (PVA) College Fairs, and meet with students in classrooms and at events across the country.

Colleen Mulvey

Colleen holds an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and a BFA from The College of St. Rose. She has exhibited at Southern Exposure, The Lab, and Mina Dresden Galleries in the Bay Area and also several galleries in New York. Her work explores urban and domestic constructs through drawing, photography, performance, and installation; examples of her work can be found at www.colleenmulvey.com. Colleen also enjoys playing soccer, experimenting with cooking techniques, and practicing yoga.

Steven Lopez holds an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and a BA in Art Studio from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is a SFAC Cadogan & Murphy Award recipient and has most recently shown work at Park Life (SF), The Riverside Art Museum, Propeller Modern (SF). Soap Gallery, Roll UP Gallery (SF) and the Annex (LA). His hard-edge graphic paintings are infused with bold patterns and intricate textures. His work can be viewed at www.stevenvlopez.com.

Massimo Pacchione was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received dual Bachelor’s Degrees in Art History and Studio Art from James Madison University in Virginia before moving to Los Angeles. While living in LA, Massimo worked in documentary film and commercial production—alongside such award winning directors as Barbara Kopple and Ondi Timoner—while continuing his multi-media art practice. In 2008, Massimo attended the San Francisco Art Institute and subsequently graduated with an MFA in New Genres. While at SFAI, Massimo served as Co-Director of the Diego Rivera Gallery and was highly involved with the SFAI community. Massimo is currently a resident artist at San Francisco’s Root Division where he continues his art practice, which currently focuses on the depiction of masculinity in contemporary American culture. 

David Wolf

David is an artist working in a variety of media including painting, sculpture and photography. He received his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2008 and his BFA from the University of Georgia in 2003. David’s practice includes photography and conceptual, text-based work. His recent artworks explore the slippage of language, or put another way, when the visual nature of particular words and the underlying meaning of those words do not quite sync. In addition to his pursuits as a contemporary artist, he enjoys playing Ultimate Frisbee competitively.

Jana works with all MA, Post-Baccalaureate and Low-Residency MFA students, including international candidates.

Jana holds an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. She is a recipient of the Edwin Anthony and Adelaine Boudreaux Cadogan Fellowship for Painting. She has shown her work in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Savannah, GA, Portland, OR, and New York. Jana has worked as a teacher, academic advisor, portfolio consultant, and college admissions counselor. Her artistic practice is a combination of painting and sculptural installation addressing memory and narrative and can be viewed online at http://cargocollective.com/janarumberger.

 

Nicole Crescenzi

Nicole works with all MFA students, including international candidates.

Nicole Crescenzi received her first Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Georgia. After traveling internationally for two and half years, Nicole turned from medicine to pursue her passion for the fine arts—both in the mechanical and material, as well as in the critical and conceptual. Nicole now holds both a BFA and MFA (2010) in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute. In addition to her curatorial experience in exhibition management at the Museum of Craft and Folk Art, MCCLA, and other non-profit spaces, Nicole’s work has been exhibited at The Lab (SF), Performance Art Institute (SF), Aggregate Space (Oakland), ap-art-ment (SF), among others throughout California. Nicole’s practice is focused on the analog and process, investigating the critical role of image making, of mediation, and of the fantasy of representation, itself.

Jeremy holds a BFA and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. He is a painter whose most recent work was exhibited in galleries in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Andrew holds a BA in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley. Andrew actively participates in events on campus, including assisting with the weekly gallery openings in the Diego Rivera Gallery. He is also an avid Lakers fan.

 

Kim Cook

Kim holds an MFA in New Genres and an MA in the History and Theory of Contemporary Art from the San Francisco Art Institute; she also received a BFA from Sam Houston State University. Her hybrid art and writing practice contemplates the intersections of social practice and site specificity. Her work can be found at www.kimlynncook.com. Kim also enjoys scuba diving, hiking, and exploring the culinary delights of the Bay Area.

 

Elizabeth O’Brien

Elizabeth joined SFAI in March 2010 as the Director of Admissions, and in her time at the school has led the Admissions team to significant enrollment increases. She has had over 17 years of experience in higher education including faculty and administrative positions. She holds a BA in American Literature from San Diego State University and an MA in TESOL from San Francisco State University. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her two young daughters.
