housing and residential life

The SFAI residence halls are vibrant communities housed in the heart of downtown San Francisco.

The two residence halls, Sutter Hall and Abby Hall, are conveniently located in Lower Nob Hill at 717 Sutter Street and 630 Geary Street, respectively. They are centrally located between the historic 800 Chestnut Street campus and the Graduate Center at Third Street. Just steps away from Union Square, the neighborhood is alive with galleries, alternative art spaces, world-renowned museums, shopping, restaurants, and other entertainment venues. Public transportation between the two SFAI campuses and throughout San Francisco is readily available. The Powell Street BART and Muni station, the cable car stop, and several bus lines are all within walking distance of the halls.

Our buildings are staffed by students and professionals who strive to ensure that the halls are a safe, secure, inclusive, artistically inspiring, and engaging place for students to live. Residents enjoy the comfort of security at the front desk, special programs and events designed just for them, private tutoring sessions, walk-in and group counseling sessions, and the creative rewards of living in a community of artists.

Tours of SFAI's residence halls are given Monday through Friday from 12:00noon - 1:00pm. Please call the Admissions Office at 415.749.4500 or email admissions@sfai.edu to schedule a tour.
