Film Department Faculty Member George Kuchar Receives 2009 Frameline Award

On Sunday, 21 June 2009 at 6:30pm at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco, SFAI Film department faculty member George Kuchar, together with his brother Mike, was presented with an award by Frameline as part of the 2009 San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival. Along with the award ceremony, there was a screening of It Came from Kuchar (2009), a documentary made by former SFAI student Jennifer Kroot that relates how the Kuchar brothers got their start in filmmaking and how they went on to become pioneers in the 1960s New York underground film scene. The documentary includes interviews with Buck Henry, John Waters, Guy Maddin, Atom Egoyan, B. Ruby Rich, Bill Griffith, and Wayne Wang. In addition to It Came from Kuchar, there was a screening of the Kuchar brothers’ 1960 short I Was a Teenage Rumpot.
