Paul Klein is Chair of the Design and Technology department at the San Francisco Art Institute, teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses. His teaching and collaborative studio practices foster understandings of how viewers, media, and society ultimately create meaning in specific and cross-cultural contexts. Towards this end, Klein is a principal at Blue Egg Media, a sustainable open-access, multiplatform media production company, where he serves as an art and design strategist and research developer for a variety of transdisciplinary projects. His current project is the research and development of media content for “Life By Design,” a syndicated radio forum of collaborative conversations between artists, designers, and users that fosters innovative solutions for improving the quality of everyday life. Klein was awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute residency in Italy in 2006 and SFAI faculty research grants in 2007 and 2010.
