faculty profile

Jovi Schnell
Visiting Faculty
Painting

Jovi Schnell received her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1992. She also received a two year studio fellowship at De Ateliers in Amsterdam, NL. In 1995, she attended the Skowhegan School, and in 2002 she received the Pollack-Krasner Award for painting. She lives and works in San Francisco and is an adjunct faculty member at the California College of the Arts. Jovi’s colorful wall works are committed to the poetic, symbolic, and metaphorical realms. Hope and a dry humor hang in balance between ambiguous logic, progress, and the unknown. Her recent work incorporates chance operations that further expand her idiosyncratic systems. In 2010, she began work in the public realm and has received commissions from the San Francisco Arts Commission as well as the Art In Embassies program.
