faculty resources
SFAI encourages faculty to propose off-campus Faculty-Led Programs (FLP) to destinations within the U.S. and around the world for both undergraduate and graduate students. The school has developed templates and policies that support faculty in the development of their course and ensure a safe and successful experience for students. Faculty members who are considering developing an FLP should meet with Academic Affairs early in the process to discuss ideas and timelines.
Proposal Process
The first step is to develop and complete the Faculty-Led Program Proposal. The proposal form is designed to give prospective faculty a comprehensive overview of what is involved in leading an FLP and ensure that each faculty member thinks holistically about the course. Faculty should be prepared to address health and safety concerns, language barriers, accommodations, and a detailed breakdown of all costs.
Your next step is to complete your FLP budget. SFAI does not profit from any course, but FLPs are designed to be self-sufficient, so faculty must plan diligently. Please see Budget Instructions for details.
Deadlines
In order to fully promote the FLP to students and give them enough time to plan academically and financially for the course, FLP deadlines are considerably earlier than standard semester course proposal deadlines.
