San Francisco,

Paul Klein is an interdisciplinary artist whose teaching and collaborative studio practices foster understandings of how viewers, technology, and society ultimately create meaning in specific and cross-cultural contexts. His work was included in In Transition Russia 2008: Cultural Identities in the Age of Transnational and Transcultural Flux at the National Centre for Contemporary Art (NCCA) in Russia. He has been an artist in residence at the Djerassi Foundation, Woodside, California, and was awarded an NEH Summer Institute residency in Italy. Klein was also the recipient of SFAI faculty developments grants in 2007, 2010, and 2013. His recent project materializes examples that question the “cultural capital” of Paris and Marseille. Klein was an organizer and presenter for the 2012 Computer Art Congress 3: Post Digital Art conference in Paris, and is a fellow for the Partnership for Academic Leadership in Sustainability. He is associate professor and former chair of the Design and Technology Department at SFAI.
