Birthdays can either mark a joyous anniversary, a rite of passage, an asinine gathering, or a cruel reminder of another year passed. "Crappy Birthday" is a show that merges these viewpoints while ruminating upon birthdays as ceremony and as celebration. These works probe the dark side of birthdays within the context of the customs, cliches, and paraphernalia they entail.
Closing reception: Friday, May 4, 7:15-10 pm. The closing reception will be a chance to exorcise past birthday traumas with cake, drinks, and merriment, and will also coincide with the last day of classes for SFAI's Spring 2012 semester.
Curated by Evan Reiser
Participating artists: Farhad Bahram, Joel Frudden, Conrad Guevara, Pete Hickok, Daniel Jefferies, Laura Kim, Li Ma, Rebecca Levitan, Zach Mitlas, Erno Raitanen, Maria Schumacher, Ingrid Wells and Evan Reiser.
