Barbara DeGenevieve is an interdisciplinary artist who works in photography, video, and performance. Her practice is project-based and her interests lie in the intersection of ethics, the politics of sexuality and political incorrectness. DeGenevieve received her MFA in photography from the University of New Mexico, and has taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign, San Jose State University, San Francisco Art Institute, and California College of the Arts. She has been the recipient of three Illinois Arts Council Fellowships and an Art Matters grant, and was awarded two National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artist Fellowships, the second of which was revoked by the National Council on the Arts because of the work’s sexual content. DeGenevieve is currently a Professor and Chair of the Department of Photography at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
