Directions to Chestnut Street campus:

From the East Bay

Main access to San Francisco from the east is Hwy 80 and the Bay Bridge. After crossing the bridge take the Fremont Street exit (right side). Turn left on Folsom Street to the Embarcadero. Turn left on Embarcadero and continue to Bay Street. Turn left on Bay Street to Columbus Street. Take a left on Columbus and move immediately into the right hand lane. Veer right at the Wallgreen's onto Jones Street. SFAI is on the right, between Francisco and Chestnut Streets.

From the Peninsula

Main access to San Francisco from the South is via Hwy 101. Entering the city northbound on Hwy 101, follow signs leading to the Golden Gate Bridge. Exit 101 at Van Ness Avenue. From Van Ness go north to Union Street. Turn right on Union and continue two blocks to Larkin Street. Turn left on Larkin. Go four blocks to Chestnut Street and turn right. SFAI is two blocks down Chestnut Street on the left.

From Marin County

Main access to San Francisco from the north is via the Golden Gate Bridge. Follow signs to Lombard Street. Continue on Lombard past Van Ness Avenue to Hyde Street (2 Miles) and turn left. Turn right at the next street, which is Chestnut. SFAI is 1.5 blocks down Chestnut, on the left.

Parking

The San Francisco Art Institute is located in a residential neighborhood, and two-hour parking is available on all of the streets immediately surrounding the school. Parking is limited, however, so we strongly encourage students, family, and friends to take advantage of San Francisco's numerous public transportation options. Public Transportation

The most direct Muni bus line is the #30 Stockton, which runs along Columbus Avenue and intersects with BART and many major bus and subway lines throughout the city. There is a bus stop at the intersection of Columbus Avenue and Chestnut Street. The main entrance is 1.5 blocks up Chestnut Street. Visitors can also take the Embarcadero Trolley, which connects to BART at the Embarcadero Station. The trolley station is located at Market and Main Street. Take the trolley to the corner of Beach and Jones Streets. Walk up Jones Street five blocks, turn left on Chestnut; the main entrance is located in the middle of the block. Directions to the Graduate Center:

From the East Bay

Main access to San Francisco from the east is Hwy 80 and the Bay Bridge. In the left lane as you leave the bridge, take the Fifth Street exit on the left. Turn left onto Harrison. Turn left onto Sixth Street and merge onto I-280 South. Take the Mariposa exit toward 18th Street, and take the 18th Street ramp. Turn left onto 18th. Turn right onto Third Street. The Graduate Center is located at the southeast corner of Third and 22nd.

From the Peninsula

Main access to San Francisco from the South is via Hwy 101. Approaching the city northbound on Hwy 101, merge onto I-280 North. Take the Army St exit. Turn right onto Cesar Chavez/Army. Turn left onto Third Street. The Graduate Center is located at the southeast corner of Third and 22nd.

From Marin County

Main access to San Francisco from the north is via the Golden Gate Bridge. Follow US-101 South into San Francisco. Turn right onto Van Ness Ave/US-101. Turn left onto Golden Gate. Turn slight right onto Sixth St. as you cross Market Street. Merge onto I-280 South. Take the Mariposa exit toward 18th Street, and take the 18th Street ramp. Turn left onto 18th Street. Turn right onto Third Street. The Graduate Center is located at the southeast corner of Third and 22nd St.

Muni's T line is the most direct line to the Graduate Center. The T train can be caught at Muni's Embarcadero stop and runs on Third Street, connecting to the 22 Fillmore, the 48 Quintara, and other lines at the Embarcadero stop.
