credit transfer

When you study abroad with one of SFAI’s partner schools, all credits you earn while abroad will automatically transfer back to SFAI to count toward your degree. Prior to going abroad, we recommend meeting with the Undergraduate Academic Advisor to review your outstanding courses and to tentatively decide which courses will be best to take while abroad and how they will fit into your overall requirements.

Most schools do not allow students to enroll in classes until they are already abroad; therefore, it is key to meet with the Academic Advisor to understand your individual plan. Most students focus on studio courses while abroad, but you may be able to take a variety of classes as long as you discuss this prior to leaving. If you choose to take all studio courses while overseas, this may mean that you will have a heavy theory/lecture-based schedule when you return. To ensure a more balanced schedule, you may want to begin taking more theory courses leading up to your semester abroad.
