Penelope Finnie
Vice Chair

Penelope Finnie was born in Atlanta, Georgia. She attended Princeton University where she received her AB in Art History/Studio Art, and earned her MFA in Painting and Sculpture at Columbia University. She taught Visual Thinking at George Mason University and exhibited work in galleries in Washington, DC, Baltimore, and Los Angeles. Moving to the West Coast in 1990, during the advent of computer imaging, Ms. Finnie became involved in developing children's educational software and then began creating websites. She was a co-founder of Ask Jeeves and served as their Chief Creative Officer. She left Ask Jeeves in 2003 to open a small chain of chocolate cafés called Bittersweet. Ms. Finnie is also on the board of the Berkeley Community Fund, an organization that provides college scholarships to Berkeley High School students, and served on the board of the Oakland Art Gallery until it merged with Pro Arts. She has three children: Hannah, Tyler, and Brem.
