Billy X. Jennings joined the Black Panther Party in 1960 and was active in Oakland for many years, working alongside prominent figures such as Dr. Huey P. Newton. He was an honor guard at George Jackson’s funeral in 1971, and a dedicated participant in the anti-war movement against U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. As a historian of the Black Panther Party, Jennings maintains the It's About Time: Black Panther Party Legacy and Alumni website, which is "committed to preserving and promoting the legacy of the Black Panther Party and its programs of community survival pending social change."
