academic training
Academic Training (AT) is a type of off-campus employment authorization that may be available to some J-1 students. The Institute of International Education (IIE) is responsible for granting the authorization and is your best source for specific guidelines and requirements for AT.
Academic Training Overview
- Available before or after you finish your degree. Consult the Fulbright program’s information on Pre-Completion Academic Training and Academic Training following the completion of your Fulbright grant.
- May be available for up to 18 months or for a period equal to the length of your degree program, whichever is shorter.
Application Deadline
You cannot begin working on Academic Training until you have your work authorization in hand. Contact IIE directly for all applications and specific deadlines.
