academic advising

Undergraduate

The Undergraduate Academic Advisors assist students with establishing clear and reasonable academic goals by developing a semester-by-semester plan for the completion of the degree. In addition, the advisors are available to discuss the requirements for degrees, independent study, mobility, declaration/change of major, and double majoring. Undergraduate advising is mandatory for first-year students and all students are strongly encouraged to meet with an advisor prior to registering for classes to ensure successful and timely completion of all degree requirements.

Sign-up sheets for appointments are available outside the Undergraduate Academic Advising Office, located on the mezzanine overlooking the sculpture studio, or students can email Peter Blackman at advising@sfai.edu to schedule a meeting. In addition, faculty advisors and department chairs are available to discuss educational and co-curricular opportunities available to students to inform and enhance their experience at SFAI. For newly admitted undergraduates, advising begins with an admission counselor at the time of the first registration.

Graduate

Graduate students are encouraged to discuss their courses of study with a graduate advisor prior to registration each semester. Graduate advising hours are posted at Third Street.
